AI-moderated interview
A fully AI-run chat or voice research session led by an Insight agent within your objectives and guardrails.
An AI-moderated interview is a research session where an AI agent — not a live human moderator — conducts the conversation. Participants answer in chat or voice; the agent follows objectives you approved, probes vague answers, and stays inside guardrails for sensitive topics. You still design the study; the agent runs each session at scale.
Unlike a static form, the agent adapts turn by turn. It can render dynamic selectable UI (chips, ratings, choices) when answers are predictable, and it fills structured blueprint fields during the session so you still get charts and exports. Open-ended depth and structured data land in the same pipeline.
On KogniFeed, an Insight agent runs the interview end-to-end: objectives, persona, prohibited topics, and session shape control pacing. Post-interview analysis auto-creates notes and metrics you can edit in the analysis hub. Distribution uses branded links, CRM invites, website embed, or API — so owned audiences complete interviews without panel markup.
Use AI-moderated interviews when you need qualitative depth across more participants than you can schedule live — churn diagnostics, onboarding friction, post-purchase experience, or recurring relationship pulses. Prefer a human moderator when the study requires high-stakes rapport, complex stakeholder politics, or live co-creation workshops.
Related ideas differ in scope: a conversational survey is the chat-style study format; conversational interviewing is the adaptive method; the Insight agent is KogniFeed’s product that executes AI-moderated interviews. Session shape and blueprint fields are how you tune depth and structure without rewriting the brief.
When it matters
- You need explained “why” behind scores at a volume human moderation cannot cover.
- Participants will complete research async via link, CRM invite, or website embed.
- You want structured fields and themes from the same session — not a separate survey plus transcript coding.
- Guardrails and comparable prompts matter more than a unique human interviewer style each time.
Common mistakes
- Treating the AI interview like a long form with a chat skin and no follow-up objectives.
- Skipping blueprint fields and expecting charts from free text alone.
- Using deep-dive pacing in a website pulse where people only have two minutes.
Frequently asked questions
- Is an AI-moderated interview the same as a chatbot FAQ?
- No. FAQ bots answer the visitor; an AI-moderated interview interviews the participant against your research objectives, captures blueprint fields, and feeds analysis you can edit.
- Do you still need a research brief?
- Yes. Goals, information goals, tone, and prohibited topics define what the Insight agent is allowed to pursue. The AI runs sessions; it does not invent your research question.
- Can participants use voice?
- Yes. KogniFeed supports text, voice, or participant choice. Blueprint capture and the analysis hub use the same pipeline either way.
